Harra Covered Bridge, in western Watertown Township in Washington County, Ohio, spans the South Branch of Wolf Creek near Watertown. Completed in 1875 under Marietta bridge builder William Meredith, it rests on cut stone abutments built by Billy Gamble from locally quarried stone taken from James Harrah’s farm, a surname later shortened for the bridge’s name. Its metal roof, vertical siding, and especially its Long truss make it distinctive, as that truss type is now rare in Ohio. Still structurally strong after more than a century of use, it carried daily traffic into the late twentieth century and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
