Thirteen unknown persons who were killed when the boiler of the steamer Buckeye Belle burst on November 12, 1852, near the guard gates of the Beverly Canal, are buried here. Twenty persons were killed and forty injured in the disaster, the only major tragedy in the history of navigation on the Muskingum River. Captain Harry Stull, the owner of the steamer, is also remembered.
