William B. Travis lived in this Alabama house while reading law under The Hon. James Dellet of Claiborne, Alabama. In 1831, at age 22, he left Claiborne for Texas, where he practiced law and became involved in the Texas Revolution. In March 1836, Travis, along with Davey Crockett, Jim Bowie, and about 180 other men, was killed while defending the Alamo mission from Mexican forces. The house was later moved from its original site in the old City of Claiborne one and a half miles away and was restored by Ann and Palmer Bedsole in 1985.
