Macomb's historic Oakwood Cemetery is the burial ground of approximately 300 Civil War soldiers and the last resting place of various conductors of McDonough County's legendary Underground Railroad, most notably members of the Allison and Blazer families. It is also the place of interment for many of the area's most important former citizens, including Oakwood's founder, William Randolph, a staunch supporter of Abraham Lincoln who was ultimately killed while enforcing Lincoln's Civil War draft law. The cemetery is recognized as an Illinois State Historic site.
