Eighty-two devout Mennonite immigrants from the Bernese Jura of Switzerland became the early settlers of Berne, Indiana. The first generations cleared the land and drained the swamps, building a future for later residents. Their first place of worship stood at this location, and so did their first cemetery, later called the Muensterberg Cemetery. They left the community a legacy of enduring Swiss values, including faith, courage, commitment, integrity, hope, vision, hard work, and heritage.
