O'Fallon's oldest existing business was established here in 1894 by Mathias Schwarz as Schwarz Furniture & Undertaking. In 1909, a hearse and carriage barn with elevator was built in the rear, and a funeral chapel stood next door to the east. The funeral business was sold in 1946, but the furniture store continued to be operated by the Schwarz family as a genuine O'Fallon institution.
