Kearny Public Library serves about 46,000 residents of Kearny, New Jersey, from two locations, with a collection of 76,989 volumes and annual circulation of 79,118 items. Its main building is one of New Jersey’s Carnegie libraries. The upper floor houses the Kearny Museum, which preserves the town’s local history through photographs, clothing, war memorabilia, school yearbooks, and everyday objects dating from 1850 to 1960. The museum gives particular attention to Major General Philip Kearny Jr., for whom the town is named, including furniture from his Belle Grove home. Much of the collection comes from local residents and is curated by volunteers.
