Josephus Hornsby, born Mar. 15, 1822, was the son of Reuben Hornsby and settled here in 1832. He served as a Bastrop ranger in 1837 and fought in the Flores Fight in 1839, the Battle of Plum Creek in 1840, the Brushy Fight in 1840, and the Vasquez and Woll Campaigns in 1842. In Austin in 1842, he led a fight against Indians and rescued William Bell and Alexander Coleman. His wife was Eliza Ann Lane, born Feb. 14, 1830.
