Prospect School began in the late 1800s, with its first class held at Prospect Baptist Church across the road from the site where the first school building was later built. In the late 1920s or early 1930s, a storm destroyed that first building, and classes were again held at Prospect Baptist Church until a new building could be built. First through sixth grades were taught in both buildings. The school closed at the end of the school year in May 1946, when small grammar schools across the state were closed and merged with other elementary and high schools.
