The Annuity Center/Warehouse
History
1
Of all the buildings at the Upper Sioux Agency in the 1800s, the warehouse received the most visitors. At this location, the Dakota received annuity payments, food, and material goods promised to them by treaty. The warehouse also housed the offices of the Indian Agent, his assistants, and the doctor. The two-story brick structure measured 105 feet by 33 feet wide. Built in 1859, it was severely damaged during the Dakota War of 1862 and was torn down in the 1870s.
