Louis DuBois, Christian Deyo, Abraham Hasbrouck, Andre LeFevre, Jean Hasbrouck, Piere Deyo, Louis Bevier, Anthoine Crespel, Abraham DuBois, Hugo Frere, Issac DuBois, and Simon LeFevre were the New Paltz patentees, who, driven from their native France by religious persecution and exiled for conscience’ sake, came to America after a sojourn in the Rhine Palatinate near Manheim, established their homes on the banks of the Walkill, settled the country purchased from the Indians and granted by patent issued by Governor Edmond Andros on September 29, 1677, and bore their part in the creation of free government.
