The Towpath Trail, where mules once towed flat bottom boats on the Miami and Erie Canal, connects Farnsworth, Bend View, and Providence Metroparks along the scenic Maumee River. At Farnsworth, visitors can see three islands in the river and the picturesque ruins of an Interurban Bridge that once carried the interurban rail system across the Maumee. Bend View takes its name from its view of a dramatic ninety-degree bend in the river. At Providence, a roller dam built to divert water into the canal stands beside the historic canal area, where the Isaac Ludwig Mill is a working water-powered saw and grist mill and the sixty-passenger Volunteer canal boat, towed by mules, operates on a restored section of the Miami and Erie Canal as a replica of vessels that once carried people and supplies on the canal system.
