The Burt Henry Covered Bridge spans the Walloomsac River near Bennington, Vermont, carrying River Road just south of North Bennington. Also known as the Henry Covered Bridge, it is a single-span Town lattice truss wooden bridge, a classic 19th-century form. Generally dated to about 1840, though sometimes placed in the 1830s, it later underwent an unsuccessful alteration that doubled its trusses to support heavily loaded trucks before that change was reversed. Completely rebuilt in 1989, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 as the oldest covered bridge in Bennington County. It remains an active crossing and a link to Vermont’s rural past.
