Alexander Macomb was Commander-in-Chief of the United States Army from 1825 to 1841 and the hero of the Battle of Plattsburg, New York, on September 11, 1814. Born on April 3, 1782, and dying on June 25, 1841, he served his country for more than forty years without stain or blemish upon his escutcheon.
