Old Faithful Capped Geyser

Old Faithful Capped Geyser was capped in 1916, the same year it was drilled. In the mid-1900s, it was put back into service, providing nutrient-rich mineral water to the Old Faithful Hot Mineral Therapy Pool located next to the Old Faithful Geyser. A pipe connected to the geyser allowed water to flow to the pool and helped regulate the water's temperature. Visitors soaked in the pool to take advantage of the spiritual, healing, and rejuvenating properties attributed to the water. In 2009, the geyser was officially put out of service. In the Calistoga area, water from hot springs and geysers has most commonly been used for bathing and drinking, but in the 1900s it was also used to heat homes, hotels, and other buildings, including the Old Faithful Gift Shop, through geothermal heat, a process still used around the world today.
