Bettie Hunter House
History
11
Built in 1878 in the Italianate style, the Bettie Hunter House is tied to the life of Bettie Hunter, who was born enslaved in Dallas County, Alabama, in 1852 and later moved to Mobile after the Civil War. She and her brother, Henry Hunter, operated a profitable carriage business in downtown Mobile. She died childless at the age of 27, and the house passed to her family.
