Galbraith Mountain
Nature
Galbraith Mountain, also called North Lookout Mountain, rises between Bellingham and Sudden Valley and is known less as a wilderness peak than as a major recreation area overlooking Bellingham and Bellingham Bay. Its importance centers on more than 65 miles of singletrack trails across about 3,000 acres, widely regarded as Washington’s top mountain bike system and open to all non-motorized users. Built and maintained through local trail efforts, the network reflects the mountain’s changing property history. A 2018 agreement secured public recreational use and helped protect the area from future development, while it remains a working tree farm, communications site, and regional outdoor landmark.
