Fort Vasquez was established in 1837 by Louis Vasquez and Andrew W. Sublette. It was maintained until 1842 as a post for trade in buffalo robes and beaver skins with Arapahoes and Cheyennes. It was a rendezvous of early trappers and became an emigrant station on the Platte River Trail after the Gold Rush of 1859.
