Colonel Leopold L. Armant enlisted in the Confederate Army in 1861 and died heroically at the Battle of Mansfield in 1864. He served in the Yellow Jacket Battalion, commanded the 18th Volunteer Infantry Regiment, and served in Mouton's Brigade. His ancestors were Jean Marie, Jean Baptiste, and Jean Seraphim Armant, Saint James planters and army officers.
