Men from Strang who died in U.S. military service included World War I Pvt. Robert J. Wilkinson of the American Expeditionary Force, who died in France from battle wounds; World War II Pvt. John Gerhard Trapp, Jr., of Company B, 30th Replacement Battalion, who died at Cassino, Italy, from battle wounds; PFC Curtis Lee Steffens, who was killed in action at Cherbourg, France; S-Sgt. Frank Joseph Schelbetzki, Jr., of Company F, 134th Infantry, who was killed in action at St. Lo, France; Korean War PFC Joseph Raymond Kennel, Jr., of the First Marine Division, U.S.M.C., who was killed in action; and Vietnam War Thomas Herman Ohnesorge, HM3, of the 7th Marines, Fleet Marine U.S.N., who died in Quang Nam from battle wounds. It also honors early pioneers Chris and Margaret Dunker.
