Trammel Fork Church was founded in 1802 with seventy members, and Elder John Hightower served as its first pastor. The church was instrumental in constituting ten area churches. Its first meeting house was a log structure, and the congregation now occupies its third building, erected in 1909. Mordecai Ham was ordained by the church on April 1, 1843, preached there for many years, and also pastored many area churches. His son Tobias served as pastor there from 1903 to 1905, and his grandson Mordecai Jr. was the evangelist at a 1934 North Carolina revival where Billy Graham was saved.
