In 1931, Governor Huey Long commissioned America’s tallest state capitol, and four years later he was assassinated inside it. The structure’s friezes, marble-work, and statuary are highly elaborate, matching the political negotiations that occur within its walls. The lobby murals of the capitol annex across the street and the capitol’s 27th floor observation deck are open to the public.
