Dedicated in 1932, the Louisiana State Capitol was commissioned by Governor Huey P. Long to symbolize the state's progress and modernity. At 34 stories, it is the highest state capitol in America, and its Art Deco-inspired lines, designed by New Orleans architects Weiss, Dreyfuss and Seiferth, make it one of the few capitol buildings that depart from the commonly seen Greek Revival style. The building contains intricate artwork, bullet holes in marble from Long's assassination, and river views from a top-floor observation deck.
