Before the War Between the States, the frame residence of Bishop Leonidas Polk of Louisiana, a principal founder of the University of the South, stood here. In 1866, Bishop Charles T. Quintard and Major George R. Fairbanks built the first two log cabins of postwar Sewanee here. In the latter cabin, the trustees met in 1866 and the EQB Club was founded in 1870.
