Sewanee Natural Bridge is a sandstone arch in Franklin County, Tennessee, protected within a 3-acre state natural area. About 25 feet high and 50 feet across, it resembles a stone bridge set in a wooded landscape. The formation began as a large sinkhole and was gradually eroded into an arch, likely aided by a wet-weather spring in a cave behind it that wore away the rock over time. Its name comes from Sewanee because the land once belonged to the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. The site remains protected today and is also known as the namesake of the Silver Jews album The Natural Bridge.
