In May 1952, Lockbourne A.F. Base established a survival school in Dorr Run, Nelsonville, under the direction of M/Sgt. James Rogers. During the Korean War, the school's mission was to qualify air crews and others in the use of principles, procedures, equipment, and techniques that would permit a person to survive and return without giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Permanent instructors there during 1952–1965 included Art Ashcraft, Tom Bise, Bill Deal, Herm Denitz, Dave Dietrick, William Dory, Hal Dumm, Ed Edmonson, Rob Franklin, Bill Gangwer, Don Gump, Jerry Hammond, Curt Heintzelman, R. H. Hoepner, John Houser, John Janaman, Bob Jennings, Ron Jewell, Bob Matthews, J. J. Moore, R. B. Perkins, Paul Murray, Ole Olson, Ralph Overcash, James Rogers, Fill Rolle, Charlie Ryan, John Tuttle, Bill Sauls, Vic Sharron Jr, George Stiffler, Jack Wagner, Tex White, John Wilkinson, and Paul Williams.
