Humpback Mountain, a 4,245-foot peak in North Carolina’s High Country, stands in Pisgah National Forest southwest of Linville Falls along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Its summit is in Avery County, and the mountain extends into McDowell County, with Mill Ridge and Dividing Ridge spreading from its western side to give it a broader form. The Eastern Continental Divide crosses the mountain, sending water from its eastern slopes to the North Fork Catawba River and from its western side toward the North Toe River. In 2013, 523 acres along the parkway, mostly on Humpback Mountain, were bought for conservation and intended for long-term wildlife management.
