The Ohio Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall presents the names of Ohio service members remembered for the Vietnam War and also includes extensive rolls and summaries of Ohio’s losses and service in other American conflicts, from the War of 1812 through the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, along with accounts of the causes and outcomes of those wars. It records that Ohioans served and died in major conflicts including the War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War One, World War Two, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, and the War on Terrorism, and it specifically names Ohio dead from the Beirut bombing, the Gulf War, the Iraq War, and the Afghanistan War. At its center is a remembrance of the three thousand ninety-five Ohioans who died in the Vietnam War, accompanied by a poem urging readers to move slowly past their names, recognize the cost of freedom, and remember their sacrifice, duty, courage, and the hopes and futures they surrendered.
