Babst Tavern was a famous layover between Cleveland and Portsmouth on the Ohio and Erie Canal. Home of the St. Helena II Ohio and Erie Canal Historical Landmark, the inn stood from 1825 to 1913 and was visited by Presidents William Henry Harrison, John Quincy Adams, and James A. Garfield.
