Pittsfield East School in Pittsfield, Illinois, was built between 1861 and 1866 as the East Ward School and long served both grade school and high school students. Designed by architect John M. Van Osdel and built by John Houston of Griggsville under a $35,000 bond-financed contract, it used stone brought from Joliet by boat on the Illinois River and brick fired locally in Pittsfield. Its tower, with a large clock and bell donated by Colonel Ross, made it a notable town landmark. After closing in 1955 and standing vacant for more than twenty years, it was renovated and reopened in 1978 as the Pike County Historical Society Museum.
