In April 1996, sisters Bessie Mynarik, Leona Mynarik, and Sidonie Cliett, daughters of John and Lille Mynarik of Wallis, donated 3.34 acres of land to the City of Wallis to be designated as a nature park. The adjoining 1.67 acres were then acquired by the Mayor and City Council, beginning the 5-acre project known as Wallis Memorial Nature Park. After the site was secured, numerous volunteers undertook the enormous task of clearing, shaping, and maintaining the park. Among the initial volunteers, Eugene Parma, cousin to the Mynarik sisters, stood out for his faithful dedication of time and effort to make the project a reality. He personally volunteered more than 4,000 hours sculpting the park he dearly loved until his untimely death in February 1999.
