Tolmie State Park is a 154-acre public recreation area on Nisqually Beach on Puget Sound, northeast of Olympia, with saltwater shoreline, forest, marsh, and underwater habitat in a compact stretch at the mouth of Big Slough creek. Named for Hudson's Bay Company officer William Fraser Tolmie, it was established as a state park in 1965 after Washington acquired the land from Charles and Ola Jones. The park supports trails, boating, swimming, fishing, crabbing, bird watching, and scuba diving. An offshore artificial reef built to improve habitat and fishing later caused environmental damage, leading to a 2024 effort to remove more than 100,000 tires from nearby waters.
