Topiary Park is a 9.2-acre public park and garden in downtown Columbus’s Discovery District, officially named Old Deaf School Park for the former Ohio Institution for the Deaf and Dumb that once occupied the site. Created during the area’s revival in the mid-1980s, its defining feature is a three-dimensional topiary interpretation of Georges Seurat’s 1884 painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, making it the only park based entirely on a painting. Conceived by Columbus artists James and Elaine Mason, the garden includes life-size figures, boats, animals, lawns, hills, and a pond, blending public recreation, landscape design, and artwork in one distinctive civic space.
