The monument honors Confederate soldiers from Pontotoc County who served in the Civil War from 1861 to 1865, presenting long lists of their names and units and dedicating Love's tribute to those who marched beneath the Stars and the Bars and were faithful to duty. It was erected in grateful remembrance by the R.A. Pinson Chapter, U.D.C., and later had three additional names added on a brass plaque.
