The Health Museum is a nonprofit health and medical science museum in Houston’s Museum District and part of the Texas Medical Center. Its roots began in 1969 inside the Houston Museum of Natural Science, and after 21 years it moved into its own building in 1996. The institution later took the name of John P. McGovern before adopting the shorter public name, The Health Museum, in 2006. Expansion continued with a 2011 renovation and the 2015 opening of the DeBakey Cell Lab, a bilingual exhibit built around hands-on biology experiments. In its current building, it has welcomed more than two million visitors.
