Myrtle Beach Air Force Base is remembered through a city and redevelopment authority effort shaped by former base personnel, including Gen. Robert Reed, Col. George Branch, Col. Edsel "Coupe" DeVille, CMSgt. Bill Forbus, Col. Robert "Pancho" Pasqualicchio, Lt. Col. William H. Rutherford, Col. Thomas "Buddy" Styers, Col. Charles M. Thrash, Mrs. Wilma Hucks Tirrell, and Maj. Ed Edelen. Signs were installed across the base property in three categories: location signs at or near buildings or complexes where significant military activities and operations occurred, people signs honoring community leaders, military leaders, and civil service personnel who played important roles in the base's history, and historical event signs in Valor Memorial Garden and along the walkways in Warbird Park covering major events from World War II to the present that shaped the base's history. Three museums preserve this history with permanent displays of artifacts, mementoes, memorabilia, photographs, and monographs in the lobby of the Base Recreation Center on Gabreski Lane, Crabtree Gym on Crabtree Lane, and the Whispering Pines Golf Course Clubhouse. The Wall of Service honors military and civilian men and women who served honorably at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base from 1941-1993. Aircraft displayed at Warbird Park include the F-100DIF Super, Sabre, A-7D Corsair, and A-10 Thunderbolt; the F-100 was assigned to the 354th Tactical Fighter Wing in 1957, the A-7D was used by the wing from 1970 through 1978 before being phased out, and the A-10 Thunderbolt, known as the Warthog, was used at the base from 1977-1993.
