Settled by men from Charlestown under Captain Edward Johnson, Woburn was named in 1642 after Woburn, Bedfordshire. Colonel Loammi Baldwin, the engineer, and Benjamin Thompson, Count Rumford, philanthropist and scientist, were born here and grew up together.
