Five miles northeast was the site of Mineral Park, a mining town that served as the county seat from 1873 to 1887, with a courthouse and jail, stores, hotels, saloons, shops, a doctor, a lawyer, assay offices, and two stagecoach stations, all lined up on a few streets. It is now abandoned.
