The monument honors the townsmen of Chelmsford who served in the War of the Revolution. It names Lt. Col. Moses Parker and Capt. Benj. Walker, who were wounded at Bunker Hill on June 17, 75, then died as prisoners in Boston on July 4 and Augt. 75, and Lt. Robt. Spalding, who died at Milford Ct. in 76. It also names John Bates, who died in the army at Cambridge; David Spalding Jr., who died in the army at Ticonderoga; Pelatiah Adams, who was killed at Cherry Valley; Noah Foster, who was shot at the capture of Burgoyne; and Henry Fletcher, who was killed at White Plains.
