Moolack Beach is a largely undeveloped sandy stretch of the Oregon Coast about four miles north of Newport, extending nearly five miles from Yaquina Head to Otter Rock and encompassing Beverly Beach State Park and the community of Beverly Beach. Its shoreline is highly changeable: a tidal range of nearly ten feet and shifting seasonal slopes can leave the sand nearly gone at some times and hundreds of feet wide at others. Though U.S. Route 101 closely follows the shore, the area remains mostly undeveloped. Its name derives from a Chinook Jargon word for elk, and the beach is also notable for ancient rooted stumps and abundant petrified wood.
