The Old Academy was erected from 1801 to 1804 by the first school society to further the cause of higher education, with Daniel Buck, Levi Churchill, and Stephen Chester serving as the committee. The school established there was later greatly helped by income from funds donated by the Rose Family, which continued to benefit Wethersfield's high school. In this ancient building, the men of Wethersfield were enlisted in the World War from 1917 to 1918.
