During the Continental Army's encampment at Valley Forge from December 19 1777 to June 18 1778, the Pennsylvania Brigade served in Stirling's Division under Major General Lord Stirling. The brigade included the 3rd Regiment Infantry, commanded by Colonel Thomas Craig, raised January 1 1777 and mustered out November 3 1783; the 6th Regiment Infantry, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Josiah Harmar, raised January 1 1777 and mustered out January 1783; the 9th Regiment Infantry, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel George Nagel, raised October 25 1776 and mustered out January 17 1781; and the 12th Regiment Infantry, commanded by Colonel William Cook, raised October 1 1776 and consolidated with the 3rd Regiment Infantry on July 1 1778.
