Born in Columbia County, Georgia, about 1794, Jabez Pleiades Marshall was the son of Abraham and Ann (Waller) Marshall. He followed his father as pastor of this church and served it until his death. He was educated at the University of Georgia. His notable positions included clerk of the Georgia Association from 1821 to 1831, representative from the Association at the organizational meeting of the Georgia Baptist Convention at Powelton in 1822, where he was elected first clerk, pastor of Sharon in Columbia County, and first pastor of Salem in Lincoln County. He was a thoroughgoing missionary, and his sermons were said to be clear, zealous, and touching. He died March 29, 1832, and was buried here.
