Aguereberry Point offers one of the most expansive vistas on the western side of Death Valley, where Badwater Basin far below and the peaks of the Panamint Mountains above reveal land tilting along active fault lines as the valley floor drops and the mountains rise. The steep slant of the rock layers exposed in the canyon below provides evidence of this massive movement. Visible from the point are Mount Charleston in Nevada, the green oasis of Furnace Creek, and the white salt flats of Badwater Basin. The point is named for Pete Aguereberry, a prospector who worked this section of the Panamints until his death in 1945 and reputedly built the first access road there so he could share his favorite view with others.
