La Jolla Shores is a mile-long sandy beach in San Diego that also gives its name to the community behind it. Stretching from the cliffs north of La Jolla Cove toward Black’s Beach, it borders Kellogg Park, Scripps Pier, and the nearby Scripps Institution of Oceanography, placing it beside a major ocean research setting. Protected marine waters offshore shape its character as a place where recreation and marine life closely coexist. It is San Diego’s only beach boat launch, making it a popular access point for kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, and paddling. Seasonal wildlife and recent public art reflecting the underwater canyon landscape further distinguish the coast.
