Cooper Mountain is a ridge in Hampshire County in West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle, extending southwest to northeast between North River Mountain and Parks Valley and Dillons Run. Its highest point, Bens Knob, rises to 2,024 feet, and Butchers Knob reaches 1,783 feet. The Northwestern Turnpike, now U.S. Route 50, crosses the mountain at Loom between Hanging Rock and Capon Bridge, and the overlook there is known for views across Parks Valley, Capon Bridge, and nearby Virginia ridges. Geologically, the ridge lies on Oriskany Sandstone and contains an anticline with iron ore from the Clinton Series. A stone fountain built around 1938 was abandoned in 1952 after its water proved unsafe.
