On October 19, 1853, while traveling over the divide to Tule Lake on Lost River, James Henry Bascomb Royal passed within sight of Bloody Point, where a train of emigrants had been cut off the previous year. That afternoon, Geo. W. Ebey killed a brant on the lake, which Royal praised as very good to eat.
