The Hugh Currie family home, Happy Hollow, built in 1891 near this site, was for many years the only house on the Amarillo-Tulia freight and stage lines, where settlers received mail and freight. The U.S. Postal Department shortened the name to Happy for the post office. In 1906, the town moved 2 miles west to the Santa Fe Line.
