Only two buildings have occupied 107 W. West Street, and both were schools. The first, a three-story Union School, was built in 1861. It was torn down in 1916 and the present two-story building was built. In its first 93 years, this building transitioned from Sturgis' central school to high school to middle school. Since 2005, it has been called Sturgis Central Commons and is home to district offices for Sturgis Public Schools.
