Pigeon River Fish and Wildlife Area in northeastern Indiana, near Mongo on State Road 3, is a protected landscape managed chiefly for hunting and fishing. Spanning 12,134 acres, it includes 529 acres of lakes, 17 miles of the Pigeon River, and a variety of open water, river corridor, and wetland habitats. Within it, the 150-acre Tamarack Bog Nature Preserve has been recognized as a National Natural Landmark. The area is also valued for abundant migratory waterfowl in spring and fall and supports many outdoor activities, including fishing, hunting, trapping, camping, picnicking, shooting sports, dog training, boating, and wildlife observation.
